For Immediate Release COUNCILMAN ANIBAL RAMOS SPEARHEADING GRAFFITI REMOVAL IN NORTH WARD Newark, NJ – April 25, 2008 – Councilman Anibal Ramos is battling graffiti in the North Ward in a coordinated effort with Barringer High School, the Newark Police Department, Neighborhood and Recreational Services, and ASPIRA Inc., a national nonprofit devoted to empowering young people. On May 3, the groups will join together as part of the Beautiful Newark initiative to remove graffiti in parks and on storefronts, buildings, and fences throughout the North Ward. They will meet at 11 a.m. at McDonald’s, 621 Broadway (near Elwood Ave.), in Newark before dispersing to other locations to clean up. Councilman Ramos said he is disturbed by the growing problem of graffiti in the area, vowing to do whatever he can to combat the problem. “Graffiti affects the moral of people in the neighborhood” Ramos said. “When you see it in a neighborhood, on a store or a home, it gives the impression that people don’t care about the neighborhood. And that’s not true here in the North Ward.” /// For more information contact Sakina Cole at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
