It is important to support the democratic process of electing leaders that best represent their constituents. Too often the general population laments their economic, public safety, educational and services plight with no regard to the connection of elections and voting. Leaders must be held accountable and your vote is a great motivator in delivering expectations. Please take the time to register and most importantly vote. Who Can Register 1) A United States citizen, 2) At least 18 years old on or before the next election, and 3) Residing at your present address for at least 30 days. You are not eligible to register to vote if you are serving a sentence or on parole or probation, as a result of a conviction of an indictable offense under state or federal law or have been adjudged mentally incompetent. Where to Register Applications for registration can be obtained from the Division of Elections, the Commissioners of Registration, 33 Washington St., Newark, New Jersey 07102, or from the Newark City Clerk. Registration forms are also available at Division of Motor Vehicle offices. You can also print a registration form and after entering required data, mail it to the Commissioner's of Registration office, 33 Washington St., Newark, New Jersey 07102. In addition, that form can also be used for name and address changes. The Commissioners of Registration cannot accept faxed copies or an electronic transmission since an original signature is required. The registrant must down load the form and send the hard copy to the Commissioner of Registration. The registration deadline to vote at any election is 29 days prior to the applicable election day. After you have registered, you will receive written notices in the mail every time an election is about to take place. It will include information about where your polling place is located and what hours it will be open on Election Day. When you got to vote, be sure to bring photo ID such as a driver's license or passport.
